I need a toy, game, or activity that encourages intellectual development in infants (babies up to 18 months in this case). It will be done with a small group of infants, and any ideas would be appreciated. thanks!!

All toys encourage intellectually development. You don't have to get "educational toys". Get some nesting cups, brightly colored soft plastic blocks, a cd with kidsongs or classical music, dolls, musical instruments...the list goes on and on. All toys teach children something, even if the way they learn isn't as clearly defined and controlled as we have become accustomed to. If you want to stimulate them creatively, give them things that have different colors, textures, sounds, and tastes.

The best Intellectual Development toy for a young child is YOU! Anything that you engage the children in is highly educational. One of the best things you can do for babies is to play "blocks" with them. Blocks are incredibly stimulating for young babies if they are used with adult interaction.

Young children are also stimulated by music, particularly if you are actively encouraging them to clap hands, wave toys or bounce along with the music.

Music stimulates infants. You may want to try puppets too.

You could also do a search on google for "developmental appropriate activities for young children"
