Okay here is some interesting facts. Back during the first century Hebrey numbers were represented by the letters of there alphabet. So words could be a number by adding the letter numerical value. For example if C=2 A=3 and T=6 than the word CAT would be 11. So the antichrist mentioned in the Bible in Revelation has the number 666. I know this really doesn't answer your question but it pertains somewhat and is a really intersting fact. I wish I could remember what its called specifically. But anyway everyone during that time had a number to their name.
SORRY logolas 666 was NOT nero's adress but happens to be his number when the letters of his name in hebrew are added up.
There are many people that could also have 666 as there number. It's just a number for now.
The "evil" thing about this number is that it is going to be the mark of the beast who will one day rule over the world taken over by peace but then will let his/hers true colors shine.

666 and 13?
You got a lot of interesting answers. here is my take:
The belief in an unlucky 666 or 13 is so great that a phone number with 666 may not be given, and some buildings do not have a 13th floor but the 12th floor is followed by the 14th.
The Bible uses numerology to code its true meaning. The number 666 is not 666 but 6+6+6 = 18 and 18 is 1+8 = 9.
Nine is the number of one of our energy fields, energy which can be used for the best - or abused. This energy field contains the greatest ego powers, that's why 666 was used in the Bible to symbolize abuse. Yet, we have the choice how to use energy, energy is but a great option to use it wisely!
Number 13 signifies the major one of our energy fields. We only have 13 main energy fields, and the 13th is the most divine.
Pagans knew about this holy number as did all ancient healing religions. Yet, it seems that the church had to connect it with something bad in order to get the people away from their pagan ways, considered "bad" by the church.
The church was or was not aware that Jesus favored the number 13: he and his disciples were 13! Their are 13 logic rules in the Jewish liturgy, and the Mayans had 13 heavens.
Ancient religions did not necessarily mention 13, not because they considered it unlucky, but because they considered it too holy to mention.
The value of every word is what we emotionally attach to it. Mother for one is heaven, for another it may be hell, depending on that person's experience with his or her mother: not necessarily how she was, but how the child has experienced her.
To be free of such labels, we can focus on the tremendous good of words, which originally were all good (see ethymology).
Friday was the day of Freya, a Nordic goddess, compared with Venus, the goddess of love and joy of life. Friday the 13 would be an extraordinary happy and powerful, divine day - if we interpret it like the ancients did.
Happy Friday 13!

I just wrote this regarding thirteen on a question of why the code of hammurabi has no thirteenth law.
One it is bad luck. We have been handed down this tradition for quite some time. I do not want to get too deliberative on the topic, but more insight is necessary.
First We do not like the number thirteen because it is attributed to bad luck. it is a sign of evil things. The solar calendar is broken down into 12 months, however before the sun was the method for keeping time the Moon was more dominant. Such as a women having her period every 28 days. The Lunar Calendar has 13 months, not 12. And like our Zodiac their was one symbol or myth for each. The 13th being that of Ophiuchus, or the serpent.
Now if you patch into the possibility of Jewish marrying some of Babylonian traditions under their occupation under Nebuchadnezzer this could be how we picked up the tradition. Thereby understand that Hammurabi was a Semite and the number thirteen could possibly be older than both. However, thirteen coincides with Asclepius the Medicine god. You know it as the twisted serpents right in the medical symbol. So we can assume that 13 is a sumbol of dragons/great serpents.
Therefore in the tradition of Babylonian roots...Tiamat was the ruler of this thirteenth sign. And she waged war with Marduk for dominance in an everlasting battle of Good vs Evil. Evil being the 13th month, the 13 symbol. 13 symbolizes bad things and a law at 13 is avoided.
Anyway 13 is a bad number.
666 is a different answer of sorts it is argued that a different number is the mark of the beast, but it is purely a christian debate as to what it indeed means. Regardless it is the mark of beast... Rome maybe NERO the caesar.

In the Bible, the Book of Revelation cryptically asserts 666 to be "the number of a man", associated with the beast, an antagonistic creature that appears briefly about two-thirds into the apocalyptic vision. The author challenges the reader to figure out the symbolism of this number, a challenge that has inspired mystics and would-be prophets ever since. The number of people who have been proposed to be the man whose number is 666 is vast and ever growing; it usually does not demand much ingenuity to find several ways to connect one's political or religious opponent with the number 666, since there is no biblical restriction on how a connection between a man and the number may be established.
In modern popular culture, 666 has become one of the most widely recognized symbols for Satan or the Devil.
No historical date has been verifiably identified as the origin of the superstition. Both the number thirteen and Friday have been considered unlucky:
In numerology, the number twelve is considered the number of completeness, as reflected in the twelve months of the year, twelve signs of the zodiac, the twelve tribes of Israel etc., whereas the number thirteen was considered irregular transgressing this completeness.
Friday, as the day on which Jesus was crucified, has been viewed both positively and negatively among Christians

'666' is considered the number of Satan. but it is not. Nero had an old enemy, and when people who were trying to find the devil or whatever asked this enem, he told them that the devil's number was 666. this 'just happened' to be nero's address. end of story.
13: i'm just gonna give you a list.
it's the number after twelve, twelve is considered the perfect number. so 13 is imperfect.
13 knots on a hangman's noose

666 is mentioned in the book of Revelation as the "Mark of the Beast". It's associated with the Anti-Christ at the end times.
13 became unlucky on Friday,Oct. 13, 1307 when King Phillip of France sent his troops out to arrest every member of the Knights Templar they could find. They arrested so many of them that the order disappeared almost overnight.
