Seriously, why do we always "boss" the whole world around all the time, like everytime a war breaks out in another country, we are the first country to get involved in it, why can't we just let another country live it's own life?, also why does NATO still exist even after the Soviet Union collapsed and the Cold War is over?, why do we have military bases and troops in almost every country in the world?, it seems like the United States is being exactly as the Soviet Union was when it comes to Foreign Affairs, we are always trying to promote Capitalist Revolutions world-wide, like we are trying to do with Iraq right now, trying to establish a Capitalist government but so far no luck. I just can't stand the ignorant, stubborn neo-conservatives who think that the United States should be the world government. Pretty much the United Nations is controlled by America, overall I think the United States is the United Nations, because all of their actions are influenced by the United States.

We are not always the first to fight in war; reference WWII, we were brought into that war. We keep Allies close to us when they're in need so that when we need aid they should provide it for us.

I'm not saying that America doesn't have it's own problems, such as weak borders, but we are at least smart enough to keep our options open...i.e. you scratch my back I'll scratch yours. :)

EXCELENT QUESTION!!
This goes to the heart of our foreign policy. At one time we were an isolationist nation. After the World Wars we became far more active and yes inerventionist in the affairs of others.

1. One reason is that of percieved threat. During the Cold War we felt threatened , perhaps correctly, by the USSR whom also felt threatened by us. We made a lot of strategic moves many of which (like our imposition of the Shah in Iran and our support of mujahideen in Afghanistan) have come back to haunt us later.

2. Another is economics. I doubt if we would still be involved with the Middle East if their main export was cauliflower.

3. Another reason is a sort of snowball effect. After decades of injecting ourselves into the internal affairs of other nation-states , whether for good or ill, the general view that we have of our role in the world has changed. ( I know not for everybody). Most people alive today can't even REMEMBER a time when we were not going around the world enacting and enforcing various policies.

4. What is perhaps necessary at this point is a fundamental rethinking of our foreign policy and what it should be overall. I am not advocating one policy or another (although I DO have an opinion) but I AM saying that we as a nation need to think about this and discuss it because it not only affects us but the entire world because of our economic and military strength. We must re-evaluate because there are and have been a lot of unintended consequences to our actions an at the very least we need to figure out how to make sure that our decisions of today do not bite us in the future.

Hope this answers your question.

Thumbs up to Be Nice for a great answer. We are the largest donor and provider of aid to countries around the world. Any kind of a natural disaster and we are there providing humanitarian assistance. It would be great if the UN wasn't such an impotent organization and was actually able to help nations that were suffering and groups that were being oppresed, but they don't seem to be able to get off their butts and do what is needed when it is needed.

Yes, we do get in other countries business. We sure got in Nazi Germany's affairs during WWII. I'm sure they were unhappy about that. Tough.

That is a complicated question. I can only say that I do agree with you that we need to allow other countries to work out their internal affairs. However, when these affairs disrupt the global economy, they will definitely hurt America. We live in a connected world. Some one needs to maintain the peace. No organization can exist without a strong leader. As an American, I would love to transfer this responsibility to another country. But whom?

Police? Boss? No, we're none of those things; just a growing, learning, young nation. I don't agree that the States should be a world government, but then, there really is no such thing as a world government. There's always someone else out there who is different...

That's a really good question. I think it's because we want to gain something out of every country. There was no point in going to Iraq when we were supposed to be in Afghanistan. The only reason why we went was because there's oil there and we want it so we can get money from it.America is a great country but the problem is, is that we're so busy trying to find out what other countries are doing that our economy is going down...fast. Why do you think countries like India and China's economies are booming? Because they stick to their priorities and don't get their heads in others which lead to furthur troubles. If we did that, America's economy and lifestyle would have been much better than it is now.

You mentioned "capitalist" a few times in your spew.
The word youre looking for is "Democracies".
And if you think that the US controls the United Nations......
And " is" the United Nations......
Then maybe you should read the papers because, I havent heard or read of ANY UN ruling, resolution, or ANYTHING come out of that building that can be even remotely favorable to the United States, in a very long time.
Maybe you should change your avatar back to the one that looks like that moron Kofi Annan

Perhaps we are just too compassionate for our own good! Seems like every time you turn around we are involved in some war or sending food, clothing, oil or whatever is needed by some other country to them, while we have people in our country that have needs that are not being met. Then again, maybe we want the world to think that we are the bread basket for them & we can do it all! Perhaps we think it makes us look good while it is really making us look like suckers!

Americans cannot even control events and peace within their own borders - just watch the news.

Why then do enough Americans want to get involved in world politics?

I have no idea and I wish Americans would just concentrate on keeping their own nation clean, their own people secure, safe and healthy.

Maybe Americans are just too naive and immature to realize that other people just don't buy the American dream as reality and really don't give a damn about it.

Russia BTW is a much bigger and fiercer world power and it looks like Putin doesn't play ball the way people like Gorbachev did.
