Israel for years was the only thing resembling a democracy (actually a democratic republic) in that area. By supporting Israel we are supporting the action taken by the UN in 1948 when it tried to form TWO new countries. Israel and Palestine. The Arab nations would not recognise Israel and did not want to recognise Palestine because it would mean defacto recognition of Israel's borders. Presidents as far back as Truman have supported Isarel.
But to say because the US supports Israel is the reason we had 911 is a real stretch. UBL and Al Qaeda has never really come out and said why they did what they did. They don't like the fact infidels on holy land. But that could mean anything. They don't like that there are Jews in Israel? That there are caucasians doing business in Arab lands? Go ask UBL because no one in here can do more than speculate what the "real" motives were.

No that is not why 911 happened. 911 happened because we have consistently ignored the wishes of the people who actually live in the middle east, while pursuing our own ends.
We have turned a blind eye to the traditions and religious issues that effect the way the middle eastern countries interact with the west, and pretended we knew what was best for them.
We gave speeches about how we wanted free and fair elections, and then levied sanctions against the rightful winner, when it wasn't our guy.
Osam bin Laden also stated he planned the attacks because of our indifference to the customs and traditions of the Islamic faith and for building bases in what he considered sacred ground.
While we have supported Israel to much on some issues, it is only one of many reasons that we have provided for the terrorist to hate us for.
The whole world was on board when we went after Al-Qaeda. But then they looked at each other and asked what the hell is the US doing when we abandoned the fight in Afghanistan and went after Saddam in Iraq. They all knew we were going after someone who had struck us in Afghanistan, and that we were not doing anything of the sort in Iraq. So we gave them yet another reason to distrust and hate us.

1. We support Israel because it is one of our only reliable, trusted allies.
2. 911 occurred due to a fringe Muslim terrorist group wanting to bring attention to its cause by attacking a vulnerable target.
You may be too young, bu the Simbionese Liberation Army (SLA) did the same thing in the early seventies when it kidnapped and brainwashed Patty Hearst.
By becoming successful in achieving its mission, and causing the US government to panic and randomly attack Middle East countries in response, Al-Qaeda now has many followers it would not have had if the response was not so drastic and ill-planned.

9/11 specifically happened the way it did because certain Muslim extremist took offense that the architectural design of the World Trade Center towers was similar to their holy site of Mecca. They tried and failed in 1993 to blow them up. If it were truly meant to be a political statement, crashing planes into the UN buildings or Congress when they were in session would have been far more effective. Imagine the damage if they would have crashed into Congress during the State of the Union address - it would have wiped out most of the federal government in one fell swoop.

Spain and England were also bombed by Al qaeda, and they have never been known as supporters of Israel.
Me thinks it is not Israel they actually care about.

Israel is our ally...and has been for years...and will continue to be.
No, that's not why Sept. 11, 2001 attack on American soil happened by the terrorists organization lead by Osama Bin Laden.

911 happened because we, as a country, do not support those who believe it is their duty to spread Islam (as they understand it) by force. The same people kill Muslims that don't agree with them. Support for Israel is one of the stated reasons they give, but lack of support for them is all the reason they care about.

We support Israel so much because they are allies and a democracy in the middle of chaos. Because of the genecide against them in the 30s and 40's the UN recreated Israel so the Jewish people would finaly have a home...I say recreated Israel because back in Genesis God promised that land to Abraham and Issac: "Sojourn in this land and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your descendants I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to your father Abraham.
I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed;
because Abraham obeyed Me and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes and My laws."
9/11 happened because those who believe in the God of Abraham and Issac have flurished. Because we allow people freedom to be who and what they want to be we have become very prosperous and blessed...and our enemy does not like that...he wants to kill and destroy anything having to do with us, and our God...they have been raised by hate..they have been taught to hate the west...their envy has poisoned their hearts...and their god has sold them a lie for he is the father of all lies...they believe that if they die for their god that he will have virgins and paradise for them...their god tells them to kill the infidel where he stands...our God tells us to love our enemy...to love others as you love yourself....THATS the God I want to follow....
