Our outside Christmas lights burnt out. Well, nothing was tripped in the electrical box but we reset all anyway. Ended up, the outside outlet doen't work anymore. Our lights worked after we used an extension chord and plugged it into another outlet. Question: What does it take to make the electricity work in that outside outlet now? Is it expensive?

Thanks so much in advance!!!

Your outside outlet is required to be GFI protected,
- probably it's the outlet itself.
Reset the GFI outlet, (it has a button so marked).
Then see if you can find out why it tripped.
(Poor insulation on those cheap christmas lights
is a likely reason. - Most are marginal at best.
- Ho Ho Ho)
If the GFI outlet keeps tripping with the lights
connected, they are unsafe.

Like others have said it's probably a tripped GFI outlet. Here are some details that may help.

Look for a GFI outlet that looks something like the picture here:

It may be the outlet that had the lights plugged in or it might be someplace else in the same circuit as that outlet. Press the reset button.

see if it is a ground fault outlet ( GFI ) if so find the mail outlet and see if it is tripped should be 2 buttons on it one says test and the other says reset and see if it is tripped most of the outlets are arounld the kitchen or bathrooms and the outside outlets are usally tied in with them

It could be that this outlet is ground faulted either at the outlet or in the main panel Look for a test and reset button

check the socket for a loose wire, you can get a cheap device to plug in the socket which can tell you the faults, looks like a plug with lights on.
It might be water damaged as well been outside (connections corroded),
remember to turn off at breaker or fuse before removing the cover to check
also make sure your not overloading the socket if you have loads of lights on, 13 amp max in general

Did you reset the GFCI protecting that outlet? It tripped.
