At my High School we have voting for titles like "Athlete" "Genius" ect. and i was named the 'Renaissance Man' of our class. Is that a good thing? I'm not exactly sure on the meaning.

Congratulations!

Now, the hard part comes: Living up to your reputation.
But do not be afraid of the challenge. Already, those who have voted have seen great qualities in you of which even you may have been unaware. Now that is much better than not being recognized.

So, keep an open mind towards all knowledge and experience and make wise and considered choices in your life. This way you will fulfill the promise that others see in you.

Being a "Renaissance Man" is a great thing. Think about the title for a minute. What was happening during the Renaissance? People were seeking out education, looking to make themselves better. The Renaissace in Europe was when the term "Renaissance Man" origionated. It ment someone who could do everything and anything. And if there was something they couldn't do, they could learn. Being a "Renaissance Man" is probably the best of all the superlatives that your school offers. Or at least it is in my expert opinion.

That was the best anyone could have voted you. It means a person who knows every thing, is good at every thing, including arts, sciences, and literature. The Renaissance was a period when Europe was coming out of the middle ages. The Renaissance flourished especially in Italy when the wealthy families of the city states sponsored artists and authors. Genius could be a nerd or a geek--good or bad. Athlete could mean muscle-bound.

It is a VERY good thing. A Renaissance Man is someone who has interests (and abilities) in a wide variety of areas. The term comes from the Renaissance period in Italy, which followed the end of the Dark Ages.
