My daughter is going to be a year on Saturday and she has a tough time drinking out of all 3 but which one should we push while we wean her? I don't think the bottle is the best because then we will have to wean her off a bottle but that is easiest for her. A sippy cup she is getting better. A cup she chews as she is drinking which makes a mess a cup with a straw she I think sucks to much and then it is all down her front.

an open mouth cup is the best. The reason she chews it is because she is still developing internal jaw stability, and she compensates for that by biting it to stabilize. Most kids who go on the sippy bite down on the spout for the same reason. Similar to how gross motor skills develop (rolling then sitting then crawling then walking) there are oral motor (mouth movement) patterns that develop and provide the foundation for higher level oral motor skills, including chewing and speech. A sippy cup interferes with both this foundation and hinders further development. Kids develop the ability to drink out of an open mouth cup before the ability to drink out of a straw. Be patient and keep at it. Most people opt for the sippy cup because there is less mess, but the open mouth cup is the way to go. The age norm for weaning to a cup is twelve to seventeen months, so you are right on track.

My daughter didn't really get the hang of the sippy cups until she was about 16 months or so. She did better in the beginning with a toddler cup with a lid and straw. I'd suggest sticking with some sort of sippy cup or cup with a straw, and maybe trying a few different kinds, if you haven't already. She'll get the hang of it eventually. You're right that switching to a bottle at this stage is probably not the best thing. Also, if you're planning to wean her because of her age, you might want to consider waiting at least until she's drinking well from the cup.

Here's some good information on weaning, if you need it:

give her a sippy cup she will get the hang of it within time. if its easier for her take the valve out until she get the hang of it. or try different sippy cups until you find the ones she likes. my son only liked the nubby ones when he was young and now don't care what kind of cup he drinks from. good luck

Sippy cup. All babies are messy at first when they start using them but get better with practice and time.

sippy cup, I am trying to get my Daughter, to use a cup at dinner, but just running around I let her use a sippy cup.

I will remind ppl not to use, if you are using plastic not to use #7 plastic, look at the recycle sign it will have a 7 in it.
That is the bad plastic that has all thous contaminates in it, that leach threw the plastic and in to our body's.

Good luck
