wondering when you cast on and start how do you NOT get the roll brim. Everytime i make a hat it ends up being rolled on the ends and they are fine but i want some without.

what you do is work 2 inches of a knit one purl one rib. this will prevent the brim from rolling. another alternative is to work seed stitch (knit one purl one and then on the next row you purl the knits and knit the purls.)

take a look at this link to see how these stitches are done. scroll down to basic stitch patterns

Actually any stitch pattern that is about half knit, half purl will halt the roll. So options include the seed stitch and ribbing mentioned by others also other rib patterns like knit 2, purl 2. Garter stitch works too, but remember if you're knitting in the round you have to knit a round then PURL a round to get garter stitch.

You could try doing a ribbing, or narrow border in a different stitch, maybe even crochet, to "shock" the hat into staying straight.

do a rib stitch for a few rows, or moss stitch that looks cool
