thinking outside the box means to think out of the ordinary. i don't know exactly what you want to do with it, but i did something once where i wanted to say that TV is bad for you. so i did a drawing of a TV that was turned off and broken with a person next to it reading a book. That way it was a pun too, because a TV is a box. Get it? well, good luck. hoped i helped!

Simply, it means to be innovative and creative, but suggesting to someone "to think outside the box" is now way beyond cliche at this point, so my suggestion would be to make your drawing a comment on the entire culture that exists around such corporatese, ie, a language that exists as basically one long string of cliches.

My best idea for responding to this assignment is to completely ignore it and do not attempt to address "think outside the box at ALL." Draw exactly what your heart feels like drawing. To be true to one's instincts is always going to lead to your most original and innovative work. You can draw absolutely anything as long as you can defend it.

I suggest a child, in a crudely decorated, cardboard box, playing, as if pretending it is a race car, space ship, or motor boat.

Be sure the box still shows it labled with it's original contents, but painted, in a style consistant with the child's age and skill, to represent racing stripes or numbers, portholes, wheels, engines, etc.

Do you remember the comic strip, Calvin and Hobbs? Calvin had some very creative uses for empty cardboard boxes, including it's use as a time machine.

Thinking outside of the box means to do something unorthodox, instead of drawing an apple, draw an apple with a knife in it and black blood running down it or something. If you want to draw something outside of a box, but can't think of anything, ask people to give you a random object and verb then paint the object doing that verb. Or look around the room and pick out two objects and try to incorporate them into a picture, such as a butterfly made of puzzle pieces. Or pick a word such as "inevitable" or "hypocrisy" and try to paint a picture expressing it.

thinking out side of the box means to think and take the road less taken. be original and creative. do things that no one else thinks of. i could go on forever.

draw a crowd of people all trying to do some of the same things..then draw one person in that crowd doing the same thing as well but in a different and BETTER way...

example~ lots of people shoveling their drive way using a tiny shovel and have lots of trouble.. then that one special person is just blowing the snow out of this world, using some magical machine.... (that's just a simple example... you can do something else...hahah)

i hope that helped! good luck!
be creative~
