what does "thinking inside the box" mean? and how can i represent that in a drawing in a non literal way

The saying is usually "thinking outside the box". If you had a drawing of someone choosing a non traditional choice - say choosing RC instead of Coca-Cola (I've seen that at a seminar) You could draw a box and the typical lightbulb outside of it.
