From what I have learned, even the most moderate Muslim has a very defensive (almost zealous) reaction to anything even slightly not 100% respectful of their prophet or religion.

My wife is Muslim and we have talked about this subject before. Her take on it is: do anything you want, say anything you want (about politics, government, life, etc.) She's fine with it. But never talk about religion in even a casual way. Or else you are asking for trouble.

As a sociologist, my explanation for it is that Muslims have lived in their sucluded area of the world for so long, their world view is seen through the lense of Quranic law. They simply cannot accept a world view that is not based (in some part) on religion. This mindset gives religion either a white or black connotation. You are either talking possitively about religion or negatively, there is no middle ground, no room for humor, sarcasm, or critisism.

This explains the destruction of Bhuddist statues. Unless the religion is about Islam, Christianity, or Judaism, there's no need to appreciate art and religious works from another source.

I do not understand your question? Are you questioning if Christianity is a religion of peace or if Islam is?

Because you start out by showing that Christians in Germany have killed Millions more of Jews than Muslims ever will.

Well, in all fairness the christians used to burn mosques and synagogue and any other kind of temple back in the day as well. And yes Islam is a religion of peace. Unfortunately there are people in positions of power or influence that are not peaceful and they are causing this kind of violence.

Christians have a long history of killing Jews and Muslims. (The Holocaust, which you mention, was carried out by Christians. And Christians and Muslims were equally bloodthirsty during the Crusades.) In India, neither Muslims nor Hindus have a monopoly on sectarian bloodshed. Blowing up a religious statue is stupid and thuggish, but it's not comparable to blowing up living human beings. It was a Christian broadcaster (Pat Robertson) who recommended a nuclear terrorist attack on the U.S. State Department. Israel is certainly not a pacifist country, and its armed forces have killed quite a few Muslims. Baruch Goldstein, who murdered 30 Muslims in a mosque in 1994, is revered by some extremist Jews for that deed. The whack jobs who demonstrate at U.S. funerals carrying signs that read "Pray for more dead soldiers" are Christians. In short, we human beings have been pretty vile to one another regardless of our religious beliefs. Christians and Muslims probably have more blood on their hands than Jews, but only because there are more of them. On a per capita basis, we're all more or less equally cruel and savage.

no, it was started by demons in a dark cave and it is ruled by satan in disguise. there will never be peace with this religion, i know i may be offending some people by saying this, but i'm only stating my personal feelings. i do know a muslim man, and he seems like a very nice man, but he is married to a christian woman, so maybe that has influence on his beliefs. i'm not saying that everyone of them are crazy and killers, but the foundation of this religion is evil, and anyone that follows it the way it tells you to, are very confused if you think that is peaceful.

If their are peaceful Muslims among us, where is their voice condemning this behavior? I have heard very, very few. If a Christian group was going around blowing up things and beheading people, you can be sure I would speak out.
