I have always called Christmas lights "Ho Ho lights" my whole life because thats what my mom always called them. I just naturally thought thats what they were called. I didn't know they where Christmas lights until I was 19 when my boyfriend laughed at me for calling them Ho Ho lights. Same goes for deviled eggs. I always called them angel eggs at work when I brought them for a spread. ( I wonder why no one ever said anything to me? lol) How embarrassing...thanks mom! Anyone else have done something like that before, or is it just me and my crazy fam?

We all got a few skeletons in our closets when it comes to our families. Might not be much, or anything that the rest of the world would even raise an eyebrow at, but ... you find it embarassing.
Angel eggs could be a variation of Deviled eggs.
Ho-ho lights could have been a brand name of the lights your mother used at one time then the name stuck like Kleenx rather than tissue papers.
Went to a school with a fellow and for a whole year everyone called him Morry. At the end of the year we found out that that was his last name (which means fisherman in his native tounge)

LOL. Ho-Ho lights... that's classic. I thought a Volley Ball was called a Volley Voll, until I got old enough to realize that that didn't make much sense...

It happened with a friend of mine in Mumbai. He and his wife were working in offices and the rearing of two kids at home was always a problem. One day ,an old woman came to their flat as a guest from their ancestral village and said she is an aunt. She was so very friendly, reliable and helpful in homely chores that the couple requested her not to leave them. The aunt who first came to them for a week, remained with them for twenty years till her death. After she was cremated, the entire family was deep in grief. To console his wife,my friend said that he is deeply grieved by the death of her aunt. To this, she asked ...what did you say ? My aunt ? I always thought she was your aunt.

Well In basketball, I always said out of bounce instead of bounds. But I thought that because of my own stupidity, not because someone told me it was that.
