Yes, I think that without even realizing it people are caught up in a lot of turmoil from the news on T.V. to their jobs and family. Somedays I don't even watch the news because it's depressing. At times I'm surprised at how many people will smile out in public. It sure enlightens you're day when they do. Sometimes I smile at people and they just give me a sober look. I think it's a sign of the times we're living in. Too much on their plate maybe.

Yes I have, particularly in large cities. However I live in a small town (about 15,000 people) and often go to the larger town about 20 minutes away to shop (100,000 people). Both places still have generally nice people. I find that older people are typically nicer than younger ones.

I do notice that. I think people are coming more selfish, depending on their age. People want what is best for them and will do what they need to, to make sure it happens. Not to generalize but that is how some people are.

I live in Atlanta and there is so much diversity here. Most foreigners tell me that Americans are always walking around being too serious, or too frustrated at life.

Actually, I notice the opposite...people are smiling a lot and are cheerful and say hello to strangers (me) so maybe you are projecting dark vibes that are keeping people at bay...
