my grandma used to tell my mother and aunts that too.

it's not true sweetie and it is of the UTMOST importance for a female to keep her vaginal area clean, especially during her period.

menstrual blood is a WASTE product and should not be allowed to sit on the skin for any extended amount of time, if it can be helped.

if possible, take a shower before school, after school, and before bed too.

or so as not to dry out your skin too much, try this: a shower in the morning and at bedtime. as soon as you get in from school, get in the tub and only wash your genital area.

use a VERY mild soap (like Dove) that is not scented and/or for sensitive skin. do NOT ever put soap inside the vaginal lips or vagina itself. do NOT use any shower gels, scented soaps, etc. in or near the vaginal area.

the skin inside the vagina consists of mucous membranes, just like inside the mouth, nose, and some other areas.

you can also just wash off with warm water and wipe with your wash cloth without soap. be sure to pat dry.

and of course, don't forget to change pads and/or tampons as often as necessary.

pads should be changed more frequently as they collect the blood OUTSIDE the body and this is what makes a woman prone to odor during her period.

do NOT be tempted to use scented pads of any kind as it is NOT good to use any of those chemicals in the vaginal area. they can cause irritation.

wow, the stuff they believed in 50 yrs ago! lol. um please take a shower. and clean yourself. Its necessary and if you don't you will smell, and it won't be pretty. I use those always flushable wipes as well throughout the day, cuz they make me feel fresh and clean. I hate the smell of being on my period, and whether or not others can smell it, i can, so i make sure to carry those with me. the only thing that will cause anything bad, is leaving a tampon in longer than a few hours and not changing a pad regularly.

Actually it's encouraged to shower while on your period so you could feel clean and fresh. I wouldn't recommend taking a bath though, for obvious reasons What horrible advice from a mother.....

That's a myth.

To not shower regularly is bad enough... Imagine what not showering while on your period would be like. Not only is it unhygienic but you will also smell extremely horrible.

No, it's absolutely fine to shower anytime. You can go swimming, you can bathe or shower and you can play sports. In fact, a warm shower can ease aches and cramps.

No, that is an old wives' tale, your grandmother is wrong and old...sorry. There is no problem with showering or bathing any day of your period, in fact it is clean to do so.

Totally untrue. You may feel better if you take a bath, it is better for cramps. But other than that showers are fine.

Of course you can shower when you have your period.

You can do ANYTHING on your period (only if you are in water you must wear a tampon).
