You really only have 2 options...
(1) Wear the tampon or (2) don't swim; let your instuctor know what's up, he/she will understand, and make up for lost time later. No big deal.
Do not go into the water without a tampon. Do not go into the water wearing only a pad either. It's unhygienic to do so. FYI, the water does not stop your period.

Look for slim tampons. They come in different sizes. Read the directions that come in the box. Put the tampon in just before swimming and remove after. When you get used to inserting and using a tampon you won't even know it's there.
If you don't want to stand in the store and read the description on the boxes, do a Google search for slim tampons and find 2 or 3 acceptable choices then look for that in the store. But, just so you know....no one pays attention to you in the pharmacy or drug store when you are looking a tampons or pads. You don't have to be embarrassed about that.
Good luck with swimming.

well, you have 2 options (if you don't want to take extra classes)
-try wearing a tampon... talk to your mom, she'll help
-or tell your teacher. seriously, even if it's a guy, he'll totally back off and be ok with it. just say "i can't really swim for a few days because of feminine issues, so is there anything else i can help with?"
men ALWAYS get the point and will let you off the hook
you might think this is too embrassing, but it's better than making up more classes later!
if its a woman, she'll understand and be sympathetic
you won't get punished for your period!

DON'T WEAR A PAD IN THE POOL! its of absolutely no use. And yes you can easily swim during your periods. I've been swimming since I was in grade 3 and my periods started when I was in grade 5 [I'm in grade 9 now] and I swim during all my periods. [You can't miss meets because of your periods can you?] Infact my stomach cramps ease up when I'm in the water and I feel really good. if you are worried about staining your costume, well it will be stained a bit but the flow stops sometime after you enter because the water is cold. My advice is you should definately swim during periods. it makes

Its either tampons or NO swimming.
Your period will NOT stop nor will it slow down. It will contaminate the pool and it WILL run down your legs when you get out of the water.
Either wear a tampon or you re-do swimming.

If you don't want to wear a tampon there is no way around it. Do not go into the pool with out one, some people say it stops your period but it doesn't, the blood just is spread around in the pool. Tampons do not hurt once you know how to put them in. Most girls use them before they lose there virginity.

I know how you feel, when i had swimming a few weeks ago and i was on my period my mother tried to encourge me into using a tampon. They seem extremely scary at first but arent as bad as they seem! If it is your first time using them try the slim maxi fit, they are for first time users and are really comfortable if you have them in correctly. If you try them and they dont work for you, or just completely unbearable just slip your teacher a note saying whats going on. With my gym teacher i tried to see if i could do certain things to substitute my lack of actually swimming, like walking laps around the pool, helping the teacher set up for their next class, Or lending a helping hand to your classmates in need.

it may seem scary to use a tampon but it's really not that bad at all. the first time hurts for a second or two and then it's over with. and you never feel it again. so just be brave! you can do it!

The only option is use a tampon, or get on birth control that stops your period.

So just wear a tampon for this occasion. What's more important, finishing gym or your refusal to wear tampons? I think finishing gym is more important.
