A comparative essay requires a strong thesis statement in your introduction. An introduction doesn't necessarily have to be a single paragraph, but it's important that your thesis appears in the first page of your essay. Perhaps the most important aspect of a successful comparative essay is the transition between paragraphs of opposing ideas. Your transitions will guide your argument and make your reader more aware of your stronger points.

Since you are writing the essay, you need to pick the things to write about. You are the writer, not us. If I say you should write about the Brooklyn Bridge compared to the Golden Gate Bridge, but you're not a bridge engineer, it doesn't help you, does it?

So, my recommendation is for you to pick two similar, but different, things you know enough about to compare. It will save you a lot of research. Here's some things to think about.

two musical instruments
two kinds of candy
two recipes for hamburger
two political parties
two styles of jeans
two TV programs
two small businesses
two social networking websites
two kinds of doctors
the famous plays of two football players
two charitable organizations
two kinds of jewelry stores

Need I say more?

First place to start is with something that you are familiar with. For example, if you like sports you can compare different sports or literature. Some other simple topics to compare are different cultures, foods, cars (american vs. foreign!!), languages, religion, etc..
good luck

To narrow it down, why don't you look at what you're interested in that will fill up enough pages? You could always write about Anti and Pro American beliefs or why Some hate America and others are our allies. If you're teacher is boring enough they'll like that... Its interesting though. lol
