Just allow the pediatrician to give him a pacifier during the procedure and he will be ok. My son was just fine after his operation (1 day old). He was a little fussy that night, but I couldn't really blame him! As long as you keep the wound well dressed (lubed up in vaseline), and his diaper very dry, he will be ok. My son was all healed up within the first week. Newborns are very tough!

My son was 1 day old when he had it done. Alot of people protest this operation but... most boys that I know of that did not have it done at birth had to get it done before the time they were 5 and it was very painful for them then. That's when they cry alot, my little boy was fine, no crying, some are traumatized and will shake off and on about an hour afterwards but it's normal. My son had a yeast infection starting at one day old so they said it would have beena necessary procedure for him at some point and our insurance covered it! It's not a major thing and most boys have no trouble! Good Luck!!!!!

If you are so keen on genital mutilation, get yourself done! You might not like the look of 'extra skin' but it's HIS SKIN not YOURS!
A baby cries when they have am injection, [which is given to protect them] so of course he will cry if part of his body is amputated.

My cousin did cry a lot when he got circumsized, so much that his parents decided not to circumsize their second son because of it!

Don't cut the baby. You are your son's caretaker, not his owner. He should decide about his foreskin when he's grown.

Our son is intact. He's never had any issues.

The cutting rate is dropping like a stone in the United States as more parents learn that cutting babies was all a bad fad to begin with. Please read some of these links.

I have 3 sons, and they all had it done. Two of them had it done before leaving the hospital, and one had to come back for it.
It is pretty minor--they don't even put them out.

None of them cried excessively afterward, not even the one who had it at the clinic....he was fine in a couple hours.

Why not be bold and NOT have it done and not put your baby through that pain for NO reason. Unless its for religious reasons i just see it as mutilation. At soon as you see your boy you will want to protect him, not pin him down and slice bits off him.

...if you had a daughter would you circumsize her too??

Did not do it.

Do you know that not all insurance covers this because it is considered unnecessary?
