I don't know about the rest of the world that surrounds you but I don't particularly care to consume "objects". Other than consuming a "cow" that you may consider an object---I'm not interested in consuming my "car". I'd rather drive it.

we are mostly taught from birth that consumption will fill our physical and mental needs. the need for emotional fulfillment is brought on by many factors, and we are taught that the cure for our ills is to buy something, worship something, strive for an ideal that the deficient ones in question naturally don't represent.
some eat to comfort themselves, others starve themselves, others shape their style and mannerisms into a desired form in order to attract approval. we consume and destroy ourselves because we are taught that we will not be happy until we do acheive whatever ideal.
the punchline is that with each object and ideal we consume, it leaves us more hungry than before because it is just an idea, just a construct that somebody else created, and it did not grow from within ourselves.
i believe that when one knows themselves well enough, they will not have that hunger for Objects and ideas, they would be complete within themselves.

Well, there's always that human instinct to consume nutrients to survive...and then if you are talking about non-edible objects or objects one usually doesn't consume, then I would have to say human curiosity and experimentation kicking in.

All consumption is an attempt to fill a void, be it out of need, want or desire.
