History, written by the victors, or scholars from later periods than when actual events were happening.......it should be taken with a grain of salt. Its fine to know the when and where, the people and places...but the actual motives and motivations for the great historic events are definitely jaundiced by the writers. To get a rounder, more accurate view takes not only facts, but reading the "losers" accounts, the literature of the day, periodicals if you can...in other words, sources not usually associated with history....Which answers your use of history question. A jumping off point, at the very least.

mutually as I agree very plenty with the 1st answer, I additionally experience that maximum background books are slanted in one way or yet another. i think the persons who pass down memories, pass only their version of the reality. i don't understand how plenty background is real.
