I bought 2 identical 1993 bayou 220 from a freind not running got one running good. The other will start fine if you give it a little gas or spray some starting fluidin the carb and then willrun but you have 2 hold the throttle in a little bit. The carb has been rebuilt professionaly. it also back fires once in a while out the carb back into the air box. i need 2 know the factory settings for the side mounted carb adjustment and the one on the bottom. that would help me out greatly any other info would be appreciated

thanks for your help guys turns out the bottom mounted carb adjustment was tightened all the way down. And my choke tube had a leak where the choke screws in thanks alot everyone, anyone have a carb for a bayou 220 for sale i need one for my other 220

ok the side one is idle speed screw . The bottom one is pilot air screw , set it at 1 1/2 turns out. It should have been set by your professional . lets start you off, first let check all electrial connectors. Then steep by step check 1. clogged or damaged air filter 2.clogged pilot jet 3.loose pilot jet 4. damaged choke system 5.carb need adjustment 6.idle set to low. Set idle to 425-450 rpm .You may want a service manual.

Backfiring back through the carb into the air box, could be from tight, or leaking valves.
If the intake valve wasn't making a good seal, when the fuel got ignited, the explosion would escape past the intake valve and blow into the air box.
Leaking valves can also affect the engine, while at idle speeds.
Check the valve clearance.
If the clearance is tight, the valve isn't sealing adequately enough.
If the clearance is loose, the valve could have excessive carbon build-up, preventing the valve from making a tight seal when closed.
Tell your mechanic to perform a "cylinder leak down test".
That will check for leaking valves.
It's not uncommon for an engine of that size and that old to need a valve job.
The pilot air screw (on the bottom of the carb) - 1 &1/2 turns is a good starting point.
It's used to fine tune the idle.
It will only have a major affect, if opened less than 1/2 turn.

Providing that all the parts are correct from the "rebuild", I would go through that carb again. It sounds like there is still some debris or congealed old fuel in there somewhere. Be meticulous! There are no shortcuts when it comes to carb cleaning. Best of luck!
