Answer one could be the reason, or in the case of others, they never got anything and now they think that they need to catch up.

OK, people, some have had terrible childhoods where they did not get the benefit of additional gifts or anything out of the necessities of life. Now they may be adults and in their grown life they have found that there are others out there that are generous, and they will take advantage of them, but it is more psychological on the part of the taker. He/She just thinks that they should not give because they grew up in a world where no one gave to them.

If you can say a child molester grew up as a molested child, or a spousal abuser grew up watching his father slap his mother around, but you can't acknowledge the same thing happening in less heinous behaviors?

Get a grip!!!

unfortunatly Bex in life there are givers and takers and a lot of it is to do with the way they were brought up or dragged up in some people's case.
Others just born with that selfish ungiving streak in them.
Fortunatly I am a giver thank god but it does get you down when you come across the takers who take what ever they want and leave you out to dry and that can be in your own family unfortunatly.
I was taught better to give than recieve.

Because, for whatever reason, they don't have enough in them to give to others. So they take as much as they can get to make up for the hole inside them that they can never fill.

You've probably heard that if you don't love yourself, you also can't give love to others (not well, at least). I think the same principle applies here. The leeches in life don't have the emotional and intellectual resources they need in order to be giving to others.

Capitalism? We're all brought up to believe that if we work hard, we'll get rewarded (money) (note - people who have tons of $ but don't work hard are assumed to work hard), and that people that don't work hard (this also translates into people who work hard but don't make very much money) DON'T DESERVE a lot of money.

Look up Weber's "Protestant Ethic" to learn more.

So, if you have some rich person who believes he/she got where he/she is because they worked hard, it's not irrational to assume that the person believes people underneath him/her don't deserve any more than they have.

To answer your question in short... we're all brought up to be selfish. I'm not saying people's parents taught people that; it's a part of our culture. It's sad... but it's a dog-eat-dog world we live in.
