I wonder if there is enough similarity between neural processes that the brainwaves for something simple like, say, the color red, or the taste of an apple, could, if amplified and fed via electrode into another persons head, be perceived as a real sensation? What fascinating possibilities that could open up! Especially if the signals could be recorded. Is any research being done in this area?

I'm thinking this may be possible at some time in the near future. As more and more research is done on the brain, it is becoming more and more possible to get some gist of what people are thinking and maybe with electrodes connected a basic message could be sent from one person to another. If it is possible to operate a computer with the mind alone, it should be possible to transmit some kind of basic message to another person.

Very interesting question. I give it an "interesting" star.

By the way, I'm not talking about psychic readings or mind reading as I think you are not. I think this could happen only with very basic thoughts of the type you mention that could be transmitted with a physical connection.

I don't think so. Brainwaves don't work that way. But, PET scans can tell what a person is thinking (to some degree). In fact, they're working on making machines that can actually be controlled with the mind, using computers that track brain areas. Cool stuff.
