Above answer is correct, but if you recognize that 0.5 = 1/2, you may find it easier to do it this way:

Double both sides, so x + 6 = 2x +1
Subtract 1 from both sides: x + 5 = 2x
Subtract x from both sides: 5 = x

0.5x + 3 = x + 0.5 Now move all unknowns to the left of equal sign and all knowns to the right of equal sign. Change the sign as you move each one across the equal sign. So 0.5x- x =0.5 - 3 or -0.5x =-2.5 Now divide each side of the equation by -0.5 and you will get x = 5.
