Go to your local hospital er room and tell them you want to check in to a behavior health center that you are considering killing yourself. They will find you a place.

Commit Myself

In the US of A, an adult has the right to "self-refer" to mental health therapists or mental institutions. This can be done through community crisis counseling centers, police departments, psychiatric departments of hospitals, or you can simply call 9-1-1 for a referral, emergency or non-emergency.

This experience may pass in time but your symptoms do sound significant.

Being responsible about your own health, mental or physical, is the sign of maturity.

Depression is largely misunderstood, so I urge you to contact your community mental health professionals NOW. If their advice doesn't seem right to you, get a second opinion, but do something positive to help yourself.

Commitment to an institution is not the only option.

Be strong--for yourself, your family, your friends, and the rest of us who might be deprived of all the wonder that is you.

Well, my wife, when she was my girlfriend, told me that she wanted to kill herself. She had been acting very strangely for a few months...you know, not bathing, not brushing her hair, staying in her pajamas all day. So, I took her to the hospital to the ER room. There they asked her a lot of questions and then kept her in the mental ward for a few days. I wasn't allowed to visit her. She was then put in an outpatient program, which she showed a lot of improvement.
You may want to see a therapist if its only depression, but if you are suicidal, it would be safe for you to go to the hospital

Either walk or drive to the closest emergency room or if you
cannot do either, call 911 and ask for an ambulance to take
you for a mental health workup, that you are extremely
depressed and a danger to yourself at this point.
I wish you all the best. Please do not put this off.
Go the ER asap and ask for a psychiatric work up. If you will
not or cannot do this yourself, ask a friend, family member,
or the local ambulance to get you there!

Find out if you have Seasonal Affective Disorder. It's caused by a lack of sunlight in the winter being able to trigger your seratonin levels in the morning. It causes EXACTLY what you're describing. The cure is simple. Sitting in front of a full spectrum lightbox for half an hour in the morning, half an hour in the early afternoon. If you live in an area that has winter, you might very well be suffering from this, it's VERY common. And it's horrible. Just horrible. Yet so simple to cure, you don't need drugs, just light. Go and find out. Look it up on Google and do some research.

If you seriously feel that you need to be committed, it's very easy. Go to your area Hospital/Institution with a psychiatric program, go to admitting, tell them the truth, you're feeling depressed and suicidal, that you will hurt yourself or someone else. You will get an automatic 72hr voluntary admittance, they will evaluate you and treat. Be aware, that once you sign that paper, you belong to that institution for a minimum of 72hrs.

Yes, you can check yourself into the "pych ward" at the hospital, or, if available you can check yourself into an actual Mental Hospital. Hope you feel Better soon!! Good Luck !!

well although you can i don't think you should go as far as commiting your self. you just need to see a theripist. depression is a very cureable disease and not some thing that would require you to be in a mental hospital God Bless and Good Luck and Merry Christmas,Heather

p.s if you are having suisidal thought then yes you do need to commite yourself they will help you deal with your problems!

I want to know this too, especially if they can euthanize me, which I would gladly pay for upfront. I wish I could commit myself and make the state pay for it all. That's like getting free room, meals, lights, etc. Maybe no TV, but hey, there's nothing worth watching these days for depressed people anyways.

And for the love of God, DON'T call the cops or anyone else. The last thing you need is them giving you a black mark on your perminant record, labeling you 'insane', or charging you a huge amount of money just to ride in a stupid ambulence. Refuse all attempts at them making you pay for anything, because that will lead to more depression.

Please don't listen to the other blather about "you're lazy" or that "you need to talk to you friends/family." That's crap. They can't help you, and neither can medication, so don't go that route either. If you find a good place with internet access and free padded rooms, give me a shout, huh?
