You can lose your plug up to two weeks prior to labor beginning, or it can occur as late as just before your water breaks. Losing your plug however is a very good sign that you're in the last stages of pregnancy, so make sure you have all your last-minute arrangements made....it could be any day! Good luck!!

No, but it does mean that things should be getting underway sometime in the next two weeks. The cervix softens and opens slightly right before delivery, as things get into the final stretch, and the mucous plug is loosened by the thinner vaginal secretions being produced. What you will be looking for is really what is called Bloody Show, where the blood gets mixed in with the remnants of the mucous. That usually doesn't happen until labor begins. While losing the plug isn't a good indicator that labor is emminent, it does mean you are in the last stretch of pregnancy.

Yes, when you start to dilate, you can lose the mucus plug. Many women lose their plug weeks before going into labor. I had lost mine and was dilated 5 weeks before labor started. Wishing you all the best!

Yeah it usually does. But it dilation doesn't always result in labour. I was 1-2 cm for weeks and eventually needed to be induced. I lost my mucus plug the day before I was induced. I was 42 weeks then. But if I wasn't so far along I may have gone into labour myself. Anyhow congratulations sounds like your baby might be ready to make his/her arrival. :)
