The world has always been cruel.
People have always been killed and tortured.
Just about every where on earth, women were seen as objects and broodmares for a VERY long time.
There has always been wars.
There has always been people to abuse their children and in the past in some places, they thought nothing of it. It was accepted.
People always have been *******. It isn't just this century.

I'd much rather live today than I would in medieval times where I could get my breasts ripped off or my joints pulled apart.

Having lived 65 years, you can not believe how much the world has changed. Sometimes I wonder if this is even the same country. Life may be some easier, but the beliefs are totally different and in the wrong direction.

I think we like to imagine a time when people were more pure. Where our current pain didn't exist. That there was something we could fix or get rid of so that people just wouldn't be so difficult. When we think about this, we can take a deep breath and be totally relaxed. But it's probably not very realistic. Relationships with people are difficult. Death is painful. Always was and always will be. But it is nice to keep that goal in mind so we can minimize the difficult/painful things. But to expect that it will all go away is to be miserable, expecting something that is not likely to happen.

My guess is because they think that the world should get better over time. People should learn from their mistakes, instead of just making them all over again. As certain things get better, lots of things get worse.
A personal opinion of mine is that in America, religion doesn't have enough of an influence. Whatever religion you choose can make you a better person. I'm not saying I want everyone to be Catholic, or Baptist, or Wiccan. I'm just saying that if more people had religions of whatever variety, their morals would be higher and it would be easier to get along.

It's just because "today" is the actual time people have finally woken up to all of this. They're not constrained by religion as much anymore.

I know, right!
Whenever I see questions asking, "whats up with all these teenagers now days having babies?" I say - "uhhhhh... hello? MOST people had kids as teenagers back in the day. It's nothing to do with "now days". You think your great grandma waited until she was almost 30? I dont think so..."
