Try the 1960's. There is some great music from both the UK and US.
A good start could be Elektra label music. It includes The Doors, Love, Butterfield Blues Band, Tom Rush, and loads of other bands and singers.

No. My parents listen to country and I'm rebelling because I hear country music where I live and at least some of the people lack a quality education because they act like children. It's how they drive and treat each other. One little thing can set them off. I don't want any part of that whole thing where you need to walk on egg shells so no one blows a gasket.
