Conditions were pretty awful.

Long hours for pennies in dreary dank and dangerous conditions. Child labor where children got gobbled up in various unprotected machinery. No workers compensation or social security or any kind of benefits. Workers were considered just another kind of peasant.

It made life better for most people. But not for everyone . Work in the factories was mind-dulling. Sometimes it was just awful . And dangerous too .
