Yes, I think that would be a pretty big indication that he's pretty mad about something. Either that, or there were no convenience stores open and he really had to go. You know how Mrs. Claus' cooking can be. Seriously, that's probably the reason people have to leave milk and cookies out for Santa anyway.

No, it means that he really, really had to go and his only other choice was the bag of toys. It's just a matter of lesser of two evils.
