So sorry for the loss of your veteran husband.

Did see it, yes, and the memory most acute for me was losing Robert Kennedy.

It was also impossible to watch the Chicago convention violence, the racial violence, all the things we encountered and winced at then. I still wince. The fervor of the Get-Out-of-Nam demonstrations, my personal memories of Atlanta's Tenth Street district where the region's counterculture gathered and formed a huge community.

The approach Brokaw used, to stand where he stood in Haight-Asbury for instance, saying he's now a grandfather, when then, he was a novice journalist, particularly brought it all home. Grandparents that we are indeed, our grandchildren the age now we were then.

Absolutely! Our generation changed the world....and, in spite of the "freelove" and drugs, the 60's changed us....civil rights, womens movement, anti-war cohesivness, end of the draft - it brought us all together to put an end to the crapola.

Finally, the birth control drug was approved for women to have some control on reproduction...we threw away our dam girdles, burned our bra's and the guys burned their draft cards and refused to take part in an illegal war. Too bad young ones today don't have the same passion - doesn't seem to bother them that their peers are being killed by the thousands in Iraq. Do you think it would be different if we still had a draft? You bet it would. They can thank our generation for sparing their butts.

Those years also showed citizens that the government is not to be believed all the time; that each citizen needs to keep an eye on the bums in Washington because they are self-serving and will kick you to the curb if you don't stay on top of them.

I remind you all of Kent State when our own government turned the military and their weapons on young students - unarmed - and killed a few of them...because they didn't like the behavior.

So, I'll sure watch it....will enjoy Brokaw's take on Woodstock.....heard him in an interview several years ago when he express that he would liked to have been there......

Probably. I was in Japan that entire year. So, I missed all the craziness in the States. A shame really. I was too busy tracking the North Koreans, Communist China and the Soviets to take time out for drug usage, promiscuous sexual conduct and all of the other self-indulgent practices that seemed to mark the "in thing".

No, it was bad enough living through it I don't need to look back and reflect on it.

That was the year I was discharged from the military... Still remember the pain of being called "baby killer" among other things.

'Nuf said!
