last week I was confronted outside the store about some items, brought me in to the store, didn't have the items with me. Yes, I had actually put the items in my cart, walk away without them. Anyway, he called the police, it was a private arrest (don't know what that means) I was finger printed, I have a court date. What I'm really worry is that when the guy from the store made the report, he mentioned 1,500 in stuff, I;m really scare now, I've been in that store so many times, buying, returning and also many times without buying anything. Never had a problem like this. I'm terrified. I;m close to 50 years old. Please any advice?

It depends, were you a juvenile or adult? If Juvenile or pled youthful offender then the arrest may show up however the violation would not. If adult the arrest will show up and the violation and it will show deferred or in my state withdraw and file which means you met certain standards such as classes and probation and after a certain time the crime was erased. The arrest however will remain. I am also assuming the petty theft was shop lifting and again it will depend on your age etc. as a general rule you would not be hirable by a county gov't, but this would depend on their personnel policeies and hiring criteria. It pays to be honest and explain your mistake. I however cannot ans. your ? about if this will stop your hiring. But I hope you learned your lesson and best of Luck.

Well, the store's inventory will be the prime evidence. If the store is not short the items he said you took, you're fine. Short of that, and the police actually finding the items in your possession during the investigation, it'll turn into a case of he said/she said, which will go in your favor as the defendant.

I would have told the cops to PROVE I stole something. No items found, right? If you don't have theft on your record, there's no worries. If you do...maybe you are more guilty than you are letting on.
