I am on Ortho Tricylin Lo and I want to skip my periods. I know you just have to skip the placebo pills and start a new pack. But is it ok to continually do that with this type of pill? Also I heard that you should take the next pack backwards. Such as start with week 3 pills. Is this true?

It is a TRIcyclic pill so it has THREE different doses of active hormone pills then the placebos. So all of the pills aren't the same.

i've talked to my doctor about this and he said i can take it three times in a row without placebo/break to skip my period. i'd check with your doctor first though to make sure it's ok for you.

You can't do it continually (I think you start to get breakthrough bleeding anyway if you skip 2 or 3 "periods") but every once in a while it's okay. I didn't hear about taking the next pack backwards, I thought you just skipped the placebos and went as normal. If you want to constantly do this you might like to ask for a pill like Seasonale or Lybrel where you have fewer periods.

They're bringing out a pack that does just this--NO reminder pills for six months, just the normal pills to take.

You can skip the reminder pills, your body will be fine. Taking the next pack backwards will do nothing, all the pills have the same amount of hormone in them, so just take them the forward way so you don't miss a day accidentally.

Assuming all the pills are the same (except the placebo pills), what would be the point of taking the second pack backwards?

There shouldn't be any problem skipping your eriod repeatedly, but you probably should have one at least 3 times a year. Talk to your doctor, they will tell you what's best for your body.

i have skipped mine by starting a new pack. (i'm on a different kind of pill). i spotted a lot the next month and had really bad cramps. if you only want a few periods a year why dont you try seasonal you'll only have 4 periods a year.

keep taking it regularly. sometimes you actually might get your period. i had the same birth control and skipped my periods and one day i was in the middle of the white/sugar pill and got my period. only skip it once in a while.

That's not a good idea to do that... When you don't have periods, the skin in your uterus wall builds up and that can lead to all kinds of different problems, such as pregnancy complications when you want to have kids and even cancer down the road! So please stop doing that and take your pills the way your suppose to. Plus it messes with your hormone levels. Ever find yourself getting really emotional? Just take your pills the way they are prescribed. Periods are not that bad and we have them for a reason :-)

i work in internal med field i would look into getting the shot if you are looking for a way to skip your period. doing it that way will just be costly and to be honest they developed the pills to be taken that way for a reason so look in to the shot.
