This will be tough, but you seem able to take it. I recommend "The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loanna," by Umberto Eco. You can get it in cheap paperback. From the beginning, the protagonist is regaining consciousness from having had a stroke. He tries to understand where he is, what has happened, all in terms of what he has read and experienced before in his life. This gives you a chance to speak the words but also to grope your (his) way to wakefulness.
