Actually yes I think you are totally right. I mean if they let us put our own pics on here and have a profile and a username..they should allow us to continue to get to know each other and talk. Talking with someone allows you to get to know each other better than anything! Most websites have chat room thingys..I don't understand!?!?

They do provide us with a "chat" section. It's called e-mail, IM, Yahoo! 360, and then there are multiple forums. This is Yahoo! Answers. The community guidelines are in place for the same reason there are rules in football or baseball -- they want the players to have a focus and a goal -- they don't want them running around with a ball and nothing to do. What fun is that? If it sucks so much here, why do people migrate to this website when there are so many chat websites out there? Because those websites suck even more perhaps? On other forums and websites, you get to do whatever you want, and there is no point, no purpose, no creativity, and no incentive to participate, plus it's littered with trolls, pervs, pornographers, and spammers with a handful of Viagra to sell.
This is what Yahoo! has to say about chatting:
"Yahoo! Answers is a question-and-answer community of people sharing knowledge. We provide a couple of different ways for members to connect with one another, including email, instant message, and a comments area, so chatting in questions and answers is not allowed. When people use Answers to chat with each other, it lowers the quality of the site and inhibits knowledge-sharing.
Here are a few examples of what we consider chatting:
•How (are you, old are you, was your day, is everyone today)?
•What are you/What am I (doing, thinking of, wearing, etc.)?
•Guess my/Can you guess my/What's your (name, age, sex, weight, birthday, location, etc.)?
We also consider questions that call out other users by name to be chatting. If the intent is to ask a follow-up question in response to someone else’s question and that person is not available via email or IM, post a new question that’s open to everyone in the community to answer – there might be someone else who’s better equipped to answer it."

One of the many reasons why I stopped coming on P&S. Not because this place is bad (its one of THE funniest forums on Y!A) its just the administration allows people to report others for "chatting" which is silly because answering any question on this site is chatting.
The questioner can add details to their question at any time which allows previous answerers to address the added detail so that's chatting right there.
My account of 5 years was deleted about 8 months ago because of my Y!A use. I asked a question no one liked so that was the straw that broke the camel's back. I'm just glad Yahoo has allowed me to maintain this account.
Anyways I agree. Give Y!Answerers a chat room. That would be lovely.

I have no idea. I asked a question and got a violation for chatting...said nothing else, just asked a question. When I emailed yahoo about it I got a nice reply that I could contest it if I felt it was an error. That's what I thought I was doing when I sent the first email.

I'm honestly not sure what the big deal is to be honest with you.
I think that this was originally supposed to be strictly question and answers. but it's kind of turned into a forum.
The way I understand it is if you ask a question and alot of someones answer it the people down the line are not to comment on previous answers. I'm not really sure who it hurts, it's just not what this was intended for.
If this makes any sense at all it's a wonder to me.

Because it was never meant to be chat. That's why you can't respond on here to answers people give. The forum to which this was intended would have fell apart long before now if you could "talk" on here. Save it for the IM or email (which is available if the Answerer prefers)

yes, they should make a chat section. I have no clue what chatting is exactly. I had a question deleted that I didn't really think was chatting.

I think there should be a chat option so you can talk with the best answerer about their answer..
Like there are some subjects that require q&a back and forth

That is my current status with yahoo...where is that line that separates chatting from answering or asking? I want them to abolish 'chatting' from the guidelines. We do it anyway...why get on us about it NOW?
