From politics to art, from religion to patriotism, and from fame to "celebrity" it seems the focus is on the sizzle and reputation rather than the steak. Have we lost critical thought?

I think that many of us are still critical thinkers. Unfortunately not enough of us...too many follow the leader, and don't think for themselves.

I agree that the sizzle and reputation have become more important than the steak--to some. I always try to think of ways to get people back to having their own opinions...that doesn't even work for me with members of my own family.

We are sinking, and that is such a bad thing. Follow-the-leader is a bad game. Let's think about playing Jeopardy--single handed, instead.

I parent I paintings my butt off and characteristic a powerful occupation that warrants me and my husbad no longer all yet a number of the finer issues, and now and lower back that funds is spent on an rather stunning $50 or $a hundred outfit for my son. sometime I spend it, now and lower back I dont. yet there is definetely a boundary and funds. i do no longer understand why some women persons choose for greater high priced issues- chalk it as much as in basic terms being a girly lady i think.

The generic "steak" is still most important. Without it, there would be no competition. The "sizzle and reputation" is a proper form of salesmanship and there is no reason, especially for the holder of the rights--if there is one--not to push the brink of salesmanship.

I don't believe that if the economy continues to sour that brand names are going to mean much. The impending recession will likely be the great equalizer. When this is all said and done, in addition to there being much more said than done, we'll all be huddled around a blazing 55 gallon drum eating generic hobo stew.

No more than has ever been the case; it is simply that our mythologies have changed. We no longer have temples dedicated to Apollo, but we have sports arenas dedicated to the current gods of sport. We no longer honour the muses and offer them tributes of poetry and song, but we attend concerts and movies and willingly part with out currency. We have no Trojan War, begun over a silly dispute of the fairest one of all, but we have an ill-conceived war in the arid cradle of civilization; i.e., Iraq. We have no King Midas, whose touch turns to gold, but we have Donald Trump, who has made greed his profession.

All things are an exchange, and all forms of worship remain, even if the objects of worship appear less substantial to the modern eye. Man is needy and requires something to venerate.

Only if "we" give it that.

Make no other your God, but God
God is not in the mind.
Why have critical thought.??
Live from the heart, your intuition, - The heart would not give "things" icon status.
The heart sees through all that is not "real".
The heart will show you the way.
Live "truly", it is better for you than concern, worry and fear.

Namaste

Not now and no ever to me

I always look at each and everything and judge the same on it's own merits

And most definitely not on any badge or brand name that it was or is to boast

Is that not the nature of this world, distraction at all cost! There are still some of us around who ask the real questions & question if anything is real.
