It bothers the CRAP out of me when a woman calls me sweetie. Waitresses (I waited tables/bartended forEVER and don't call other women sweetie) and store clerks...strangers. It's totally patronizing. How do they know if I'm sweet? Maybe I'm not. And I'm not a child, you call a child sweetie. It doesn't bother me so much when a man does it---I just don't get that irritated feeling I do as when woman says it. It's rude.

Everyone has their own lingo. I have never been bothered unless it becomes one of those "things" like people said in Clueless ie; whatever...Until that point I have enough different friends with their own dialect that it's just fine. At least when I hear Sweetie I can't interpret it as someone trying to be a smart A** like many other things.

I call my friends sweetie all the time, or I have a habit if I am talking to a younger person to call them sweetie or dear. I hope it doesn't offend them. The last thing I want to do is offend them, I love them all.

Enjoy your evening Sweetie! Oops! There I go again!

You can call me sweetie anytime you want William. As long as you don't mind that I return the favor! Lol, I enjoy the company of nice people and I also like for them to know that I appreciate their appeal to me. What better way, than to call them something endearing?

the only individual who calls me sweetie is a creepy homeless guy. He in user-friendly terms says it whilst he needs an further bag of stale chips. It kinda wrecked it for me, i like honeypot tho.

It depends! Sometimes people say that because it's a habit of theirs. Then, I just ignore it. But when people say that to belittle me, I get annoyed and I let them know that I am not their "sweetie". It annoys me more when people my age call me that. <3

I don't like being called "sweetie" by someone I don't know. I especially don't like it when some woman calls me "sweetie" over the phone. It's condescending, patronizing and false. How on earth can someone know how sweet I am if they don't know me? I like being called "sweetie" by someone who reserves that name for me alone. My man can call me "sweetie", but that's it.
