What liberal media?? Oh......THAT liberal media!
Dec. 8, 2007
WASHINGTON - NBC reversed course Saturday and decided to air a conservative group's television ad thanking U.S. troops.
The ad, by the group Freedom's Watch, asks viewers to remember the troops during the holiday season. NBC had refused to air the ad
NBC initially said that airing the spot would violate the network's prohibition on controversial issue ads
"I think they had an agenda," Blakeman said. "They didn't like our Web site and didn't like what we stood for."

All media should say Thanks to Our Troops. NBC wants to make the news not report it. That is the way of the majority media today, so no big surprise.
For those that do not want to Thank them REALLY needs to get the HE** out of America.
Merry Christmas to all and especially OUR TROOPS!!!!

How many political/quasi political ads are aired by the major networks on a daily basis that include a contact phone number or website information at the end of the spot? I haven't done a survey, but to my recollection there are plenty, especially now that the campaigns are in full swing. Are we to believe that none of these are in support of controversial issues? This will be one of the most controversial election campaigns in recent history!!! Is NBC going to refuse the Hillary.com ending? The Osama.com ending? I don't think so.
They must give their viewers little credit for having the intelligence to decide whether or not to; A. Go to the website in the first place; and B. Believe or not the information they might get there.
On the bright side, it's a little tougher for the left to deny that at least NBC is pointedly liberal biased.

Al Gore and troops are two different things. NBC is a business, and they can accept or deny running ads as they choose. There is no law and they are under no legal obligation to run any kind of advertisment. Why should they be required to run an ad supporting troops?

Note that they changed their decision! The ad aired on NBC this morning on Meet the Press.
Why did they have a problem with the ad?
They wanted them to take the statement "For more info on how to support our troops go to our website ......org" which is a bait and switch, since their website isn't just about supporting the troops, it's about supporting a right wing agenda and the Bush Administration.
Freedom's Watch was started by former Bush Administration officials including Eliot Abrahms. They are using the troops as cover to push their agenda on the War in Iraq, policy on Iran etc. Pretty low if you ask me.

It is controversial for liberals who hate America. It shows how pathetically disgusting NBC is.

Who is doing it and why. It is not that simple. If they were to include other organizations, some who were not supportive of radical right wing causes with an agenda, I am sure NBC wouldn't mind. NBC wisely will not allow a severly one sided ad that steers people to a website that plugs an ultra right wing agenda. If the Freedom Watch groups wants their propaganda ad to go out they need to go see Fox.
Joining with other organizations and not steering people to their site if Freedom Watch wanted to thank the troops I would think NBC would welcome the ad. But that is not the agenda of the Freedom Watch group so I believe NBC is right in saying no.

They do not have a problem with showing the ads. They have a problem with showing the web site address to the sponsor of the ads considering their agenda to be controversial to their viewers. If they remove the web site address from the ad, they will show them.

Whether NBC supports the war on terror or not, they are aware that it is controversial to many of their viewers and they apparently do not wish to be put in the position of dealing with the aftermath.

I saw this add, and it was not political. It simply stated thanks to the troops for their service. NBC should be ashamed of themselves for not airing it. Website name or not. It is an excellent example of left wing media bias.
No matter what your political views, thanking the troops for their service in any arena is honorable.
Anything to the contrary is disgraceful... we owe our freedoms to them, and the many many vets who have fought and served before them.

Not that moveon.org would ever put out an ad thanking our troops, but had they, and their name showed up at the end of it this would have been a NON-story and NON-issue with NBC.
I'd bet my last pay check on that one.

Some NBC executive had his/her you know what stuck up his/her you know what. The backlash was fast and furious. NBC will now show the ad.
