In Illinois, you are not an adult until your 18th birthday. High school graduation has nothing to do with this law.
After your 18th birthday, you can enter into an apartment rental contract without your parent's permission.

The legal adult age is 18. And technically your a teen unit you turn 20 & then your a young adult & your a full fledged adult when you in your late 20's or 30. Or you can look at it as a level of maturity & you could act & behave as an adult at 17 but no one else would agknoledge it because apart of being a true adult is experiance.

No, you are not legally an adult until you are either 18 OR get married. Even if you were to have a baby, you would not be emancipated. You can probably become emancipated after you graduate if you petition the court. This is easier if your parents consent to it.

I graduated when I was 17 also but no, your graduating highschool doesnt change your minor or adult status.
If you can find someone who will rent to you as a minor and your mother doesnt prevent you from leaving then I suppose you could.
But she is still your legal guardian until 18.

well legally you're an adult at 18!! sorry!! but i know some 30 year olds that still act like children and not like adults, it's good to see you want to be independant and resposible for yourself, but unfortunatley you are very young, and my advise to you is to enjoy the last few years of your teens!! trust me once you are on your own, and you have to pay for everything and you have no one to do things for you it's very hard and not so glamourus!! LOL so take your time growing up! i sure wish i had!

Don't know about your state....usually you have to be 18. You can get an emancipation order, but it takes a lawyer and you have to show cause....of course this is in the case where your Mom fights your leaving - she might consent. It will still be tough for you to sign rent contracts, car notes and insurance etc.
