you don't...Try to help them get into rehab...They have to want it tho...I finally had to disconnect from someone I tried to help cause I did all that I could and it was better for me to just walk away from the unhealthy...I was tired of seeing him drink himself into a druken stuper....and it was very frusterating to see someone you want to help basically lose everything...and start stealing from his family...Screw that I'm just glad I wasn't related and could walk away...I didn't need that type of negativity around...and it's not like I didn't try....Good Luck...sorry I kinda got off on a tangent...Because they are just so self absorbed and it seems to be all about them all the time...I wish it wasn't so widespread this so called disease people give into...

You don't; and if you are living with an alcoholic, you might want to take steps to get help for YOU... Alanon is a good place to start..

Living with an alcoholic isn't a walk in the park... and leads to co-dependent behaviors.

Understanding that the alcoholic's first priority is drinking is a good start. take care.

You won't hon. Best thing you can do is find a group for you to go to to help you as a relative of an alcoholic. Being married or related to an alci does our head in mostlky because of the lies so I reccommend that you get you sorted and leave him to God.

you don't, it's a drug, and that person has pickled their brains, they are like any drug addict, they say what they think you need to hear to get you off of their backs, or tell you what they think you want to hear, and it takes time for the alcohol to wear off, not just out of their blood, it takes a period of time before they can even think straight even if their blood alcohol says sober, your best bet is to join Al anon, or Alateen, and that person need in treatment therapy, my father was an alcoholic, and my ex husband ended up becoming a crack addict, i tried to make arrangements with a marriage counsler and they agreed to see me but would not see my husband until he was clean for this very reason of saying stuff that they don't mean, you need professional help with this no one can do it alone, and these 2 organizations can help immensely one of the things you have to realize is the only behavior you control is your own and you are not responsible for the alcoholics behavior, and don't enable them either, like covering for them with work or family, if they miss work don't call them in or lie to family, it only makes you look like a liar or stupid, and it does no good to pour booze down the sink, they only get more, and if they are bad enough as most are they need to be under medical supervision while withdrawing due to the DT'S and it just pisses them off and in their pickled state they may take it out on you, U CAN'T FIX THIS, ONLY THE ALCOHOLIC AND PROFESSIONALS CAN DO THAT AND DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU IT'S YOUR FAULT, IT ISN'T, the only person that makes a person drink is that person themself, remember you cannot control someone elses behavior, good luc

Depends on who the alcoholic is. Some of the worst liars do not touch alcohol.

You have two options how to deal with this.

You can see a therapist to talk out your issues about alcoholic, and they can advise you what to.

or

Have you say to the alcoholic say, Hey I really care about you & I want you to get help.

Is is easy to get them tell them you have something they might want like a cat or dog. Then ask them the question they should answer truthfully. You can find this out by asking them the same question 5 or 6 minutes later it should be the same answer if it is not then they lied.

You just can't - it is like hitting your head against a brick wall! Might as well be trying to get the truth out of the bottle! Move on!

you can't.they spend their whole lives avoiding the Truth. If they lie to you they keep you off guard and create distance. They lie to themselves so why not you.If you don't know truths about them you can't criticize them with any real force.they don't want to feel ANYTHING that's why they drink. They are very weak people who avoid life.
