Does all memory work in all computers? Can you mix and match memory, like have one brand in one slot and another in a different slot?

Final Question: If I put it in and it doesn't work can I just take it out and no problems? How do I know if they are non-compatable after I put it in? Will it cause long-term problems if I do try it?

The answer is NO. I have had compatibility problems with trying to use different makes of RAM in the same computer.

Even though the sticks were the same capacity and speed they did not play together nicely.
You can run a memtest after installing and see if it works ok.
If it does then you are good to go.
If you are initially buying all the RAM then I would suggest getting the same brand.

P.S. Manhal...RAM is Random Access Memory
not Random Access Storage

Final Answer: If you put it in and it does not work you will get a series of beeps from your computer and it will not boot. Or, possibly it will boot but not all of the memory will show up in system properties.
If that happens first try to reseat the RAM modules. Don't just assume that they are not working together. If you still have problems after reseating then it is a good assumption that they are not working together as they should.
You can take one out with no problems.
Just make sure you take the power cord out of the PS and discharge any static that you have built up on your body by touching the metal part of the PS to ground yourself before touching the Module. Do not touch the chips and do not touch the gold plated pins.
Good luck.

Only memory that is for your computer, if you have a computer with a certain amount of memory, you can only use that amount of memory. You can mix but you shouldn't because every company makes it differently. One can use different byte sizes and one could make double sided ram while one makes only single sided ram. You should always use the same brand and kind so that there won't be any problems or so your problems can lessen.

YES as long as they are of the same type. That means ALL 168 pin SDRAM, all 184 pin ddr or all 240 pin ddr2. If of different speeds, BIOS will just synchronize their speed to that of the slowest. If same speed but not matched pair, they will run in single channel mode unless your motherboard has one of the newer Intel chipsets that has Flex Memory feature.

Yes you can , When you say "Memory" i think what you are referring to is RAM. However RAM is not memory , it is actually storage. It is temporary storage . Anyway, so yes you can use different brands and sizes of RAM.For example Using 256mb RAM from Kingston will work no problem with a 512mb Ram from Comstar.
