stab yourself in the hand with the knife. Like it gets stuck in your hand type of stab. What are some solutions? Remember, it's on a stranded island. No doctors or paramedics, just a First Aid Kit.

sterilize it. I heard that you can urinate on it but not sure how accurate that advice is. I would first wash it wit salt water in any case. Of course if my first aid kit had some antibiotic cream, and peroxide, I would use that

Since it's impossible to chop down a tree with a knife, especially the knife you might have with you, perhaps a pocket knife and not a Bowie, you would be carving a few little pieces at a time. The stab is not going to be a great wound. If you are still on the beach of this island you are stranded on then go to the water & soak your hand - don't go out too far, stay on the beach - you might attract a few 'big fish' which might be OK if you like like raw fish or that tree just happens to have limes or coconuts on it. Think about your first aid kit & maybe use a little polisporin or iodine - to disinfect the rather small wound you will have and put a bandaid on it. Look at everything in the kit. Maybe there might be a couple of matches, maybe you could light a fire; and if you are very lucky maybe that island is in the middle of a small lake with camper's all around you, maybe even friends wondering where you are? Then it could be an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean right off the coast of Oahu - don't worry too much there will be a Party Boat right along in time for dinner or some University Students practicing with outriggers for their next race.

Remove the knife carefully and put direct pressure. Rinse it with coconut water if you've got it (it has been used for plasma substitute in desparate situations), or fresh water, or sea water. Direct pressure with the cleanest cloth/bandage you have, wrap, elevate your hand. Get out of the sun and rest. If there are any antibiotics in the first aid kit, you could put the powder straight on the wound (you would NEVER do this in normal circumstances, it can cause allergies to develop). If blood starts to seep through, DO NOT remove it. Just wrap another layer around the outside. Try and keep it clean as best as you can. If after 2 days it is not infected, and is open, you could stitch it if there is any in the first aid kit. However, probably best not to unless it is with sterile stuff--you're more likely to die from infection. You'll just take longer to heal and have a bigger scar. Pray every day you'll get rescued...don't go swimming with your cut...you might attract sharks.

i would pull it out doctors tell you not to but no doctors available this is a take a chance thing

id pull the knife out swiftly but carefully not too fast don't wanna get to much internal damage not too slow so id lose a lot of blood

second thing is apply pressure to the wound to stop blood loss

3 i don't think there would be thread and a needle if there is i would attempt to stitch myself if not i would apply a dressing and make it tight and check it often to see if I'm bleeding

4 if i couldn't stop bleeding i would use a tourniquet place 2-3 inches below the wrist and let it dangle off my arm keep blood flow at minimum and apply dressing and get used to my left hand

5 chances of survival are minimal but might as well do something instead of crying

I know there is no major artery in your hand so it would be safe to pull out the knife, clean the wound, and wind gauze around it to prevent the bleeding. some first aid kits have needles and surgical thread so you might need to stitch up the wound. What do you think people did on battle fields when there were no paramedics and doctors. they took care of their wounds themselves.

Leave it in there and continue to chop the tree down with the knife still stuck in your hand.

The knife will come out eventually or your hand will fall off in which case pull it out. At least you'll not be able to repeat the accident.

Pull the knife out, allow it to bleed enough to clean the wound. Then find a comfortable place to rest. The next step is to control the bleeding using a combination of direct pressure and the fix it program. Once the bleeding is controlled focus on speed healing the wound. Bandage as necessary to protect the wound and keep bugs and dirt out.

How to instructions for the fix it program are posted here http://www.helium.com/tm/148271

First, control the bleeding. Apply a compress, anything will do, leaves, what's left of your shirt. Then, and since you're on an island, sea water is not far. Keep you hand in the water, salt is a good disinfectant.

Take the knife out, swear profusely, squeeze some blood out of the wound, try to get rubbing alcohol into the wound, and try to sew it up as best you can. Cover the wound, go back to your survival kit, and use the axe to cut down the next tree.

Don't be surprised if you pass out in the process, and die of blood loss... or if it gets infected and you die anyway.

First put my hand into the ocean, maybe the salt water could be good for it and then find a vine and some leaves and then wrap the leaves around the hand using the leaves as a bandage. THen I would make salve out of mud to put on it. then CRY!!

take the knife out + look for some kind of clothe in the first aid kit or somewhere. wrap it good so that the bleeding stops.
