You should see HOW to do it, too.
You just add 11/5 to each side. That leaves you with just W on the left side, and then -4 + 11 = 7. That's why it's 7/5.

Add -11/5 to both sides.
w= (-4/5) + (11/5)
w= 1.4 or 7/5. By adding -11/5 to both sides we have the variable and its value on the other side. Do not let fractions confuse you. i.e. 11/5 is the same as 2 and 1/5 remaining. An integer can always be a fraction, 10/1 =10 still. It just so happens that we did not have to find the L.C.D. to add, this time!

practise, practise and practise, that's the only thing u can do with maths (oh n remembering formulas too, but that will come with practise)... but first of all don't be scared to get help, if not from ur maths teacher, ask another at ur school... if u don't understand a topic, go to bbc bitesize and look it up in the maths section and read through the 'bite' and if it still doesn't help, just google 'help with *the topic* ' and read about the topic and then do some sums so that u can try to use or remember what you've learnt... though it sounds taunting and annoying, doing some extra work at home will really help and soon u'll get the hang of things. if ur still struggling u might want to get a private maths tutor, they really do make things easier for u... if everything fails, then please do move down from honours level, because ur just going to over-do urself and end up annoyed, frustrated, fed-up and most of all upset. NOTE to Commander: when shortened maths does have a 's' since it's shortened from mathematics with a 's'. NOTE to Rukkus: i don't know about peach's english, but u certainly don't seem to have the ability to be polite either...

-11/5 + w = -4/5
+11/5
the -11/5 cancels out, and then ur left with: w= -4/5 + 11/5, which equals 7/5
So:
w= 7/5
