do members of each political party actually vote based on their platforms? if there are any stats or patterns you could refer me to it would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

No, they are not dying. And while not marching in lockstep, candidates generally believe in most of the party platform. That's why they joined that party in the first place.

Hell no. There are plenty of differences between the Democrats and the Republicans. I doubt you could take Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney and say there not very different

Political parties are forever, look at this election cycle and anyone outside the two major parties do not get mentioned.
