A general estimate is that 13 million Native Americans were exterminated by the expansionist white Americans. Some figures put it at close to 60 million, when you add in diseases like VD, chicken pox, measels. Has the white population ever admitted to the crime? Have they ever apologised? Have they ever placed whites on trial for it? Cheers.

I have touched a nerve here, methinks. I was reading a book, "Warcries on Horseback, A History of the Indian Wars". In line with the public apology by Chancellor Adenaur for the crimes of Nazi Germany, and the apology by the Pope for the lack of protection given to the Jews, by the Catholic Church, in WW2, I was thinking that there might be someone with enough knowledge of their own countries history who could point me towards any national declarations over the extermination carried out, seemingly deliberately, by the USA government. I see the difference between war and invasion. The Indian Wars were NOT warfare in the same way as WW1 or 2, they were aggressive, exploitive and invasive of the land of others. I am aware that there are no people alive today who carried out a part of the extermination, simple arithmetic could supply that info. All I asked was what happened. It seems no one who answered has any idea, other than abuse me for asking a question, or just avoid the question.

And if these Native Americans have it so good now, can you tell me how many Senators, Congressmen, state Governors, et al, are from the 1st Nation?

pgb:- FYI read the yahoo! TOS. This is not, according to those, simply a forum for the Yenghi. It is an international forum. I would think you would guess I am from Britain because I write proper English and spell words correctly, yeh?

PGB?? Comprehension skills? Not my lack, chappie. Please note that I never asked the current generation to apologise, I asked if an apology had ever happened. You really should try harder. Read carefully, digest, think and respond accurately to the question, not jumping in with no thought, just because YOU don't understand the question and your little nationalistic, introspective heart is hurt.
Last Voice of Reason:- No, I don't expect anyone to apologise here. That is not the question. However you will know just how much the 1st Nation is under pressure by big business. Their land is still under threat by the Yenghi.

Who exactly is America? I decided to enter the name into a nationwide telephone directory search and I got 300 Results matching "America, United States". I didn't bother to call them up and ask them if they admitted to any crimes, but you might like to.
As for me, I'm part Native American and part European. I'm not admitting to any crimes. Do you have any you'd like to admit to?

Well, I read your additional details, and there is no denying that Native Americans had their land forcibly taken from them and many were killed in the process. The problem I have is with the national identity part. A nation is a concept. Many people in America have ancestors who arrived here long after the event. Many others have interbred. Who should apologize? The guilty are lost to time. They don't exist. It is unclear as to whom among those living today should bear any guilt. As I stated before, I am part Native American and part European. Would it make you feel better if I apologized to myself?

Desert Shadow, I would like to know more about the situation. Can you suggest any websites or other sources of information about current injustices we should know about? That would be of interest and perhaps there is a practical way to help.

Who do you wish to be put on trial? Much of what you are asking about happened back in the 1800's and no one from the era is still living. Do you not know there are hospitals that are built in some major cities (in areas where there are large Native American populations) that are there only to serve the Native American populations. Do you not know that many of the Native Americans receive monthly payments to aid them in their lives. Many white people over the years have died from VD, chicken pox, measels, small pox, polio, cancer and other diseases too.....we are all suseptible. I do believe that the anglo populations of today has recognized and identified with the plight of the Native American.

Besides, and I am truly not making light of this, the Native Americans are getting the last laugh with their casinos, the anglo's drop a bundle every day in their casinos.

Edit: It is easy for all you Brits to condemn the US these days, remember that when your sorry asses get whipped in war the next time around, then you will be begging the US to help you out.

In fact, there have been numerous lawsuits and award to various tribes over treaty violations and other abuses. Native Americans run their own "Nations" semi- independent of US law. You can look these up.

There have, therefore, been ample "official" apology over the abuses of the past.

As far as diseases and pestilences are concerned, there is no definition of "crime" that can be assigned to the unintentional transmission of a disease from one person or group to another.

Should we SUE countries in Africa for introducing AIDS into the world? Should we sue China because of Bird FLu?

I'll echo the answerer above me. The USA makes no secrets about the mistakes it has made a hundred years and more ago. We're one of few nations not airbrushing unfavored historical figures from photographs or publishing "official" history propaganda.

The rules off conquer when war is set upon another race doesnt make you have to applogise for the destruction off the opposing race. Who ever wins dictates what happens and there way is instigated into law.

It isnt America coming to the aid off others in war normally America asks England to assist them first. Ozzie & NZ were the first deployed into Iraq not the americans why? because they dont have the skill and lack diplomacy, America just wants to bomb it and rape the land for its oils and minerals using terrorism as an excuse.

We put our mistakes and atrocities out there for everyone to see. How about your country? You'll have to ask the British if they've apologized for their part in what you mentioned.

When Americans come to a forum that is designed for people from your country and ask about the past mistakes of your country, what do you tell them? List them for us.

***I have no idea where you're from. That's why I said, "your country." And I don't care. You may spell correctly, but you're lacking comprehension skills.

If you can bring back the whites from the dead that did this, be my guest. None of the whites that live in America now were alive when this happened. My family was not even living in this country at the time. They were in another country without a pot to piss in.

Grotesque blood sport such as the UFC? As opposed to people being stoned to death in the middle of a soccer stadium for half time entertainment? At least the UFC fighters are there of their own free will.
