I read the Odyssey with school and my teacher encouraged us to watch Oh Brother, Where Art Thou because it was based on the book. I watched it and I picked up on some similarities, but mostly I was just very confused watching the movie. I see how they are similar with like the characters names, the prophet, the sirens, etc. But can someone help me by pointing out some more similarities, differences, and explaining basically what the movie was about. I was just so confused watching it, lol. I feel stupid. So please and thanks!

I think if you check Wikipedia or Google around, you'll find a detailed comparison. Both stories involve smooth-talking men who escape confinement to be reunited with their wives, though in the film, Everett's wife Penny (cf Penelope) has accepted the suitor, and Everett's confrontation with the one is hardly as triumphant as Odysseus's with the 100.

Another reference is the song, "Man of Constant Sorrow", which compares with the description of Odysseus, whose name means "man of pain", as "long-suffering".

You're doing a fine job. I'm sure you will spot differences as well.
As far as what the movie was about, a few people I know have said it confused them, so you're not alone. I just really liked the music, and have a CD of that.

I've watched the movie more than once as well, and if you haven't, maybe it would help if you did. It is a kind of loopy movie, but tells a story of a sort.
Luck--
