diane B there is nothing wrong with my question. it's not my problem you didn't understand it. maybe that's why you got all the thumbs down.

If your water heater is in small room behind a closet or just somehow inside the home itself, it shouldn't need anything on it, that is if it's a model built within the last 10 years. If it's older than that or is in a cavity that has to be entered from the outside, the door will most likely not be very well insulated. I would put my insulation there rather than around the heater itself.

yes, hot water heaters in garages or in trailers where they are outside in their own little closet would benefit from a blanket. If it helps keep the heat in, go for it.

I would be very careful wrapping anything around a gas heater with an open flame -- that sounds like a recipe for large fire to me. Check with your local fire department and see what they might suggest. don't put your family and home in jeopardy.

The next time you ask a question, give all the facts and be specific in your wording you stated thermal blanket when you should have said thermal water heater blanket. It is difficult to give an appropriate answer when you don't word the questions correctly or give factual information. A thermal blanket it something completely different from a water heater thermal blanket. I don't appreciate all the thumbs down.

Yes, anything you can do to keep the water from cooling down is good.
