Any solicitor, and yes, it does cost.
Type in 'Deed Poll' into Google and loads of companies come up who can do it for you.

You can choose to be known by any name you wish and ask people to call you by that name, but for official purposes (eg for marriage, passport, tax) you will still be known by your original name unless you change it by deed poll. I understand that you need to use a solicitor to do this. Why not do the first part and make sure you are comfortable with your new name and then make it legal later?

Yu can just start using whatever prefered name you want to......it will only be illegal if you change your name purley to obtain credit
If you wish to have documents as proof of your new name the magistrates court can a statutory declaration for £7.50 fee
Or you can buy a Deed Poll document from any stationary supplier like WH Smith and complete it yourself....it will need two witnesses to sign it

Regardless of what most people think, you do not have to go through any legal process to change your name, you just need to change it and consistantly use your new name. I changed my surname 19 years ago, and just informed all the people that billed me i.e electricity, BT etc.

Marie's a lovely name, don't change it! But if you're serious you can change it by deed poll for £34.
