I really want to be a dental assistant, however, I'm introverted and I don't really like to talk to people a lot. Does this matter? And do you still think that I could do it?

Your patients couldn't talk to you anyway with dental work going on. You can be pleasant without having to hold a long conversation. Yes, you can do it.

Yea you can be whatever you want if you just put your mind to it. Being a dental assistant all you gotta do is clean the clients teeth and stuff and just explain to them what you are doing so they are not left out in the blue. I don't think it matters if you are the kind of person that does not like to talk to people that often. If you really want to be a dental assistant, then go for it! Good Luck!

Anyone who deals with the public has to be able to communicate with people. So yes, you may have to learn to be a little more out-going. I don't talk much to my dental assistant, obviously my mouth is full at the time, but she always makes me comfortable by being friendly and chatty when I come in.

I think that to work with people you have to be a people person and if you are introverted that is not a quality you want in a person who works with people on a day to day basis. I do think it would be a good challenge for you, cause that would change you and make you more of a people person, especially if your dream is to become a dental assistant! I think you should go on with it, that will be a good challenge and change you in a good way! Good luck tooth fairy!

Do not let your introversion or "shyness" as it was called decades back, get the best of you. Go ahead and become a dental assistant and/ or whatever other career or goal you set for yourself in life.

No it does not matter that you are not too talkative, or like to smile a lot, or like to be extremely sociable, etc., what matters is that you do know you like to do this kind of job, and that you know you can be succesful in it.

And of course you can do it. This and whatever else you want to do in life. Remember, not all of us are exactly alike (thankfully) in where physical, mental, emotional, even spiritual things are concerned. GOD has createded us in his own image, where kindness, forgiveness, cleanliness of spirit, etc., is concerned, but he didn't say we all had to look or act alike!

Melissa, be a dental assistant, you don´t have to talk a lot and as time goes by, you will have more confidence on yourself, it will go away with time, not to worry, I have been trough that period, now I´m the most extrovert you will ever meet

yes, being a dental assistant doesn't require you to talk to crowds of people all of the time, you work in a quiet dentists' office and it should be no problem for an inttroverted person to adapt and feel comfortable.

You don't have to get THAT personal, you're the assistant not the head hancho. The most you'll have to say is "Hi. How is your day? Does it hurt when I do this? Ok, you're done, get out!" Trust me, the more you talk to people, the more natural it becomes. Think of it as testing your boundaries, or a growth exercise. C'mon now, I know you can handle it!

no i dont think it matters that much...the dental assistant doesnt really deal with the patient 1 on 1 they just assist the dentist and that doesnt invlove too much talking on your part...you might have to ask the patient to rinse once in awhile lol but i think you can do it ;)
