They all have different personalities, but the general rule is that females are more hyper than males. Males tend to be more mellow and calm, whereas females are, well, nuts! LOL. But this isn't always the case. I did notice that my females were usually more hyper than my males (although I had a couple nutty males, too) and all of my "lap" ferrets were males. I wouldn't say either sex is mean or spiteful. They might bite and nip (males AND females), but it's usually only meant in a playful manner. And, with some training, that can be brought under control. The main thing to stay away from is unneutered males - they can be the most aggressive (you'll only have to worry about this if the ferret comes from a small, private breeder, all pet shop and most shelter ferrets have already been neutered).

Males tend to be calmer than females but as all things it is not a fact.

Also if you get a ferret as a kit s/he will jump, bite, run, lung, play, and attack. That's what kits do. If you aren't willing to handle that go to a shelter and get an older ferret.

Going to a shelter and getting an older ferret if you have never owned a ferret is also the best thing to do. The shelter runner will know what the personalities are of the ferrets and which one would be best for you.

Males are usually less aggressive than females.
But it all depends on their individual personality.
I've heard that albinos are meaner than the other kinds of ferrets, but I have one and she's the sweetest thing!]

So really, play with a bunch for a while and see which one you like most.

It completely depends on the temperment of the ferret and how much handling they've had.
