Most cultures treat women differently, and ultimately, treat women worse than men. It doesn't matter what religion the majority of people believe. Many religions have been used to keep women in their "proper" and secondary place in their society. Some European countries have been able to overcome their sexist past very well, but the rest of the world is way behind, including the US.

In quite a few cultures, men are treated poorly as well, by other men. Often religion, ethnic differences, land ownership, wealth, political power and violence are used to keep both men and women poor and powerless. In these countries, the majority of men are second-class citizens, and women are third-class citizens.

As I look at the other response the people posted, stating Islamic and Hindu cultures. We need to take a look at the culture here in the United States, although we have women in the working field, We women are still considered second best when it comes to a promotion at work against a man. So I feel that here in America they treat the women as second class citizens.

Well, being that we all know what is the
"Oldest Profession" in the world, then we should all know that, that means that at some time it had to be the "only" profession. That is, untill the other jobs were invented.

Most scientists and historians believe that "thousands" of years passed before the second job was invented.
That means that for thousands of years the only one's with a job, therefor the only one's with money, therefor the only one's with "all" the power in the world for all that time, were women.

Meanwhile the men, jobless and without money, were tyranicaly and oppresively forced to be totaly dependant on the chicks.

Forced to spend everyday, all day at home, vacuuming the caves, washing the whole families loinclothes, washing all the dishes, and since the animals were gigantic, enormous dino-monsters,
you can imagine how big the plates were.
Just one "southern" style deep fried "drumstick"
for example, was as big as a modern cow !

Meanwhile, since the "chicks" were all busy, dominating, (100%) the corporate world, while they were "hustling" at the "brothel caverns" and at the "stripper caves", the men were even having to make sure that there would be plenty of
"heirs to the pole".

Since "chicks" costed money and the dudes didn't have any, they were forced to impregnate monkeys, and then single handedly raise all the little "rockfloor-rats" and then after "aaall" that, they still had to have dinner ready for their wives and "live-in" girlfriends when they got home from work. Also, they had to have dinner for the monkey moms !

All those years, how we've suffered for soooo long !

That's why we need something revolutionary, we need something like a
"Dudes Libertizoning Movingment", kind of freemabatizing thing !

And, we should demand "No" more monkeys, and "chicks" should be "free"................of charge !
That's our "right's" "Dammit"

"Oh Yea", and also,...............
"Yes" means "Yes", "Dammit", so from now on,
when we say "Yes",
you "have" to "do it", "Dammit"..............for "free"
"Dammit" !!!

islam is not a culture. it's a religion. some countries try to make women into second class citizens on the justification of islamic doctrine, but the whole act of covering up and being modest is supposed to liberate women so that they don't have to be a piece of ***.

i think that all cultures, to an extent treat women as second class citizens even if they're allowed to walk around naked. how much skin you show is not a level of freedom...and if you look back in american history, women couldn't date w/o a chaparone

Cultures and societies that are less successful have a tendency to marginalize the women and treat them as second class citizens.

In many Latin American countries women are still treated as second class citizens, especially in the rural areas. The same can be said for most Asian countries and India. In Islamic countries women are treated worse than livestock.

Hmmm these kinda questions Always cause trouble!

In most modern societys women and men are treated equally luckily.

Although under the surface attitudes Do exist, whether people choose to admit it or not.
There are advantages and disadvantages to being either gender..in all aspects of life, career, love, social etc.

In western society men and women are treated equally as a rule.

In SOME, not all, middle eastern cultures, women are Sometimes treated differently or less.
Some religions and cultures embrace a more patriarcal society where gender roles and stereoypes are more prominent.

There are subtle ways in EVERY country in which women are treated this way, but the most blunt are the Islamic / Middle Eastern countries and some island, third-world countries like parts of Africa and New Guinea.

Many, take a look at the UK for a start.

Despite the introduction of The Equal Pay Act 1970, unions in this country have fought long and hard to ensure that it is enforced. Desite many requests for anonymised payroll information to various large company HR departments, these are rarely returned, a sign in itself. 37 years on and even the UK government recognises that there are still disparities.
